Jonathan's infectious brand of folksy music proved very popular with the
Friars patrons and was always welcome, playing Friars Aylesbury no less
than six times, three of which were headlining performances. But did you
know that Jonathan just before his first appearance at Aylesbury had
played Friars Watford
supporting the
legendary Kinks? Did you also know that Jonathan additionally
headlined Friars Dunstable in 1973
(with an unknown Joan Armatrading as support)? In the early seventies,
Jonathan's gigs were based on the classic albums Twice Around The Houses
and Wait Til They Change The Backdrop and these feature classics such as
Madeleine and Sligo Fair, which have been blasted out regularly of late
at Friars Towers. Jonathan effectively retired from the music business
in 1975 but after a 30 year hiatus was persuaded to play again and still
plays the occasional gig. A quiet and unassuming man, step forward out
of the shadows.....Jonathan Kelly, Friars Hero.
