Kid Creole and The Coconuts, when originally booked
to play Friars in June 1982, were then seen by many as not one of the
stronger acts to have been booked to play Friars. By the time the gig
happened, people had cottoned on to what was happening and it sold out and the band played till midnight. Those there
and at their heroic return in October (it sold out immediately) consider
these to be amongst the greatest gigs Friars ever saw. Fast forward 27
years and the Kid made good on his promise to set Friars alight
again....it was every bit as sensational as 1982 and people are talking
of this 2009 gig as one the greatest nights at Friars. We were delighted
to be able to say to the Kid he was a definite Friars Hero.
