what happened next
The Beat went on to considerable success before disbanding in 1983. Wakeling and Roger formed the General Public and Cox and Steele formed Fine Young Cannibals who went huge for a while. A version of the Beat with Roger and Moreton plays today. VH1's Bands Reunited failed to reunite the original line up in 2004 when Cox and Steele refused to take part (all the others did)
