One of the best feel good gigs ever and one of my all time top
gigs. When you hear R&B this good (and R&B younger readers is not Usher or
Kanye West), anything else is almost an imitation. Why this band called it
a day not long after (although now a going concern again) without getting
their due recognition is one of life’s mysteries - they were criminally
neglected. My memories of this gig were almost destroyed by their 10th
anniversary reunion show in London in 1990 when my mates and I who had
seen this Friars gig actually walked out of the London one, and I’ve only
done that on one other occasion. Thank God when I did see them again in
1996, they had rediscovered their 1982 abilities and were very good.

what happened next
Nine Below Zero
split in 1982 and Dennis Greaves and Brian Bethell along with local legend Mick Lister formed The Truth
who had some chart success. Nine Below Zero have since reformed and gig as at
2012. Brian Bethell had gone on to join The Blow Monkeys
The Fleshtones
may have had some line up changes, but are still going in 2012 after 36 years
