Phase Two/Bowie Night

Capitalising on the success of the exhibition, we were offered two evening events and for the first one we homed in on the early years of Phase Two but leaning heavily towards the effect of David Bowie. We all know that Ziggy Stardust was born at Friars in 1972 and that Bowie came back to Friars in 1977 as part of his protege Iggy Pop's band.

 

We were lucky to have two very special guests for this sold out well in advance event. First we had Mark Adams who has run Bowie's website for quite some time and has supported the Friars website all the way along. We were privileged to hear his views on Bowie's career and especially on the Friars Bowie (golden) years.

We were also lucky to have as a guest Les Payne, a local legend who trod the Friars boards many times in the early days and we were able to hear his version of 'Star' which Bowie offered him before he made his own, effectively, cover version on the Ziggy Stardust album.

As you can see from the top item below, Mark supported this venture on the official Bowie website.
