This gig nearly didn’t
happen after two members of the Gang of Four had taken a good hiding
from some hooligans a few days before the gig. Certainly the
physical marks were in evidence during their performance. That I do
remember of them alongside the magnificent At Home He’s a Tourist
which is timeless. In truth I think we had gone along to see Swell
Maps who were starting to gain a bit of a cult following at my
school with their Trip to Marineville album. They pulled out too after altercations
with others. It was left for Aylesbury’s very own Stowaways to fill in at
short notice. I seem to remember they weren’t for me. I do seem to
remember that Epic Soundtracks from Swell Maps made it to come on with the
Red Crayola

lasted until 1984, but this original line up reunited in 2004
